I was watching a to-be-nameless television show tonight. To my disappointment, the writers decided to add to the list of completely wrong and harmful depictions of hypnosis and NLP. One man was supposedly hypnotized to drag a dead body to the police station, another to seemingly be the person who killed the dead person, and by the end of the story, a policeman was hypnotized to almost commit murder.
Amazing. Of course, it was all wrong, and reinforced all the negative stereotypes of hypnosis. On top of that they threw in some stuff making NLP look like a self centered way to manipulate people. As a professional hypnotist and NLP Master Practitioner, this all makes my job so much more difficult. You cannot hypnotize people to do things against their will as all hypnosis, in the end, is really self-hypnosis. It basically places a person in a relaxed, type of meditative state where they can access their unconscious mind. For some reason, these false depictions of hypnosis are ever occurring in the media and apparently self perpetuating.
My experience and view of hypnosis is in another universe. I continue to this day, to be awestruck by the incredible, jaw dropping experiences and spiritual awakenings my clients have. It is inspirational to do what I do. There have been many days when I was in the middle of some emotional experience, an illness, etc. but toughed it out and went to work. By the end of the day, experiencing the privilege of witnessing my client’s breakthroughs and self-revealed spiritual lessons, I came home feeling revitalized. If I could bottle up the wonderful spiritual and emotional energies of my clients, I think IÂ could end all wars, end unhappiness, and bring total peace to the planet.
So, the next time you see one of these hokey fake hypnosis movies or shows, sorry if I spoiled it for you.
